GhostBSD 10.1 Beta 1 now available

I am pleased to announce the availability the first BETA build of the 10.1-RELEASE of the Release cycle which is available on SourceForge for the amd64 and i386 architectures.

Changes and fix between 10.1-ALPHA2 and 10.1-BETA1 include:

  • Mouse integration suport for VirtualBox
  • Instant verification for user and root to know if the password is strong and match on the system installer
  • Host name and user name auto completion when typing the real name
  • Guake has been added as default software
  • Vim has been added as default software
  • PCDM Locales fixed

GhostBSD 10.1 Alpha 2 now available

The developers of GhostBSD have released their second alpha for version 10.1.

 ghostbsd_2I am pleased to announce the availability the second ALPHA build of the 10.1-RELEASE Release cycle which is available on SourceForge for the amd64 and i386 architectures.

Changes and fix between 10.1-ALPHA1 and 10.1-ALPHA2 include:

  • The PCDM theme file as been fixed which was creating blinking black screen.
  • Macro windows decoration has been fixed.
  • The installer GPT partition problem has been found and fixed in pc-sysintall.
  • Some installer text error has been fix.
  • The user shell selection has been fix from the last change to have csh by default since fish have a bug from the ports.

Important info

Please be aware that this release provides beta tester and developers with a system to test out new features for the upcoming release. This release may contain buggy code and features, so we encourage you to run it only on non-critical systems.

Note: Developers can’t fix problems that we are not aware and can’t reproduce; if you report a problem give us a detailed reports that we can reproduce the problem.

GhostBSD 10.1 Alpha 1 now available

I am pleased to announce the availability the fist ALPHA build of the 10.1-RELEASE Release cycle which is available on SourceForge for the amd64 and i386 architectures.

Changes and fix between 4.0-RELEASE and 10.1-ALPHA1 include:

  • GDM as been replaced by PCDM
  • Wifimgr is now fully replaced by Networkmgr
  • A beta version of Update Station is now in GhostBSD whish update FreeBSD base system and software
  • The installer partition editor got a lot of improment
  • The installer use the latest pc-sysinstall from PCBSD GitHup
  • GhostBSD is now following the same release number then FreeBSD and PCBSD

GhostBSD 4.0 Karine is now available

ghostbsd_1The GhostBSD Team is pleased to announce the availability of GhostBSD 4.0 Karine. This is the first release of the 4.* branch, which is base on FreeBSD 10 and introduces some new features.

Some of the highlights:

  • GCC is no longer installed by default, clang is the default compiler.
  • make(1) has been replaced with bmake(1), obtained from the NetBSD Project.
  • pkg(7) is now the default package management utility.
  • pkg_add(1), pkg_delete(1), bxpkg and related tools have been removed.
  • Networkmgr is the default network manager.
  • Mate is the default Desktop.
  • 3 workstation to chose

GhostBSD 4.0 RC 3 Karine edition now available

ghostbsd_1The developers of GhostBSD have made available the third release candidate for version 4.0.

Changes and fix between 4.0-RC2 and 4.0-RC3 include:

  • SpiderOak was not compilable and it is missing in the system.
  • GhostBSD Network Manager aded on i386

Warning:

Updating software using “pkg upgrade” will corrupt xorg and might corrupt GDM too. The solution is to use update the software that you want to update with “pkg install” , you can see the list of update by doing “pkg upgrade -n”, “pkg install” automatically update software dependency. Be sure to not upgrade xorg-server, xorg-drivers, and any xf86 with “pkg” use “portupgrade”

GhostBSD 4.0 BETA 3 now available

ghostbsd_1The developers of GhostBSD have released the final BETA of version 4.0.

The GhostBSD team is pleased to announce the availability the third BETA build of the 4.0-RELEASE release cycle is available on SourceForge for the amd64 and i386 architectures. This is expected to be the final BETA build of the 4.0-RELEASE cycle.

This release includes some bug fixes as well as new and updated packages. This release also includes the changes from direction GhostBSD is taking, Three workstation that is build a top of MATE desktop Classic, Purity, Element. We hope that you will enjoy this change!

GhostBSD 4.0 BETA 1 now available

ghostbsd_1The developers of GhostBSD have just released 4.0 BETA 1. The following lists changes and issues present in the latest BETA:

Changes and problems fixed between 4.0-ALPHA3 and 4.0-BETA1 include:

  • Switch from cpio to rsync for copying file on the installation.
  • The kernel is now writable on the live DVD which solves graphic card kernel loading for Intel and ATI.
  • Updated FreeBSD 10.0-RELEASE to FreeBSD 10.0-RELEASE-p3.

Known issues:

  • Network with “Live Image” does not work in Virtualbox or VMware Workstation / Player – workaround is to install the OS.
  • GBI allow users to summit partition without root(/) partition.

Issues fixed that need testing:

  • Installer failed to copy files on virtual machine.
  • Xorg failed to load MATE.

GhostBSD 4.0-ALPHA3 is released

ghostbsd_1The third ALPHA build of GhostBSD 4.0-RELEASE has recently been made available on SourceForge. The following lists the most recent fixes in this ALPHA build:

  • Network after install works on Virtualbox
  • Added Wifimgr back for better wifi support until Networkmgr is working flawlessly
  • Removed gimp since gimp is easily install with “sudo pkg install gimp”
  • Removed all software that depends on Nautilus (ie. Rhythmbox and gksu)
  • Exaile is replacing Rhythmbox
  • GhostBSD user is now removed after installation
  • New experimental look
