FreeBSD Clusters (video)

Matt Olander and Brooks Davis, two well known FreeBSD advocates, on FreeBSD clusters. This video was taken a few years back, but it’s still relevant explaining how cluster computing works on FreeBSD.

Build your own NAS with FreeNAS (video)

If you’re just itching for an excuse to reuse that retired desktop PC or laptop sitting in your closet there here’s your chance:  the basics of installing FreeNAS, an open-source DIY NAS. So instead of spending money on off the shelf options why not save yourself some cash and make use of the stuff you already have and get a super customizable network storage device to boot.

This video from Revison3 explains the theory behind NAS and shows how to set up a FreeNAS server.

Embedded Monowall: Installation (video tutorial)

This tutorial will guide you through copying the m0n0wall image to a compact flash card and the initial configuration of the m0n0wall on the ALIX embedded board. I will be using a VPN accelerator card since I will have about 10 IPsec tunnels actively running at one time. I would only recommend using the VPN accelerator card if you plan on maintaining several VPN tunnels at one time, otherwise it is overkill.

Sun ZFS filesystem on FreeBSD

ZFS – the breakthrough file system in FreeBSD 7 (ported from Sun’s Solaris 10 Operating System) delivers virtually unlimited capacity, provable data integrity, and near-zero administration. However, FreeBSD’s sysinstall(8) does not yet support installing the system onto anything more exotic than a commonly used UFS partition scheme.

Read how to implement the solution on coolrat.org.

Back in April Pawel Jakub Dawidek created a useful a step-by-step tutorial how to install ZFS on FreeBSD.
